Create Outdoor Rooms

Imagine a woodland covered in ferns, cohosh, hollyhocks, Jacob's ladder, grasses, bergamot, mints, honeyberries, raspberries, nectarines, cherries, pawpaw, apples, echinacea, catnip, silver akebia, kiwi, honeysuckle, wild roses, goldenrod, and thousands of other species in a curated and wild food forest. An edible landscape that is a blend of warmth and vibrancy and peaceful hues.

Imagine inhabiting a place that is rich with living soil unlike anything ever seen, tasted or smelled before. That is so nutrient dense that your 70 trillion cells light up as you nourish your body with health. Where time is your friend, and regeneration creates lavish vibrancy and abundance.

Imagine when you enter the garden it is like entering a new world. An orchestrated jungle of outdoor rooms; a courtyard to draw you in, and dining space and space for open fire cooking. A living serenity room for lounging, play, meditation, stargazing, and fire ceremonies. A place that facilitates communion and intimacy with nature, your spouse, children, and inner circle of friends. Drenching your spirit, soul and body with nourishment.

What I love is that all the imagery that went through your mind as you were reading is your possibility! I know you can thrive, create beauty, and make your immediate world wonderful.

The first step on the path is to follow your curiosity and take the step in front of you.

  • Begin by choosing what rooms you would like to have and what you will use them for: Aka, living, dining, lounge, entertainment, courtyard, outdoor cooking, spa, lounge, pools, ponds, and etc.

Draw a blueprint taking your property layout and draw in rooms, walkways, arches, fences, borders and buildings became walls. If you want the spaces to also produce food, write out a list of the food producing trees, shrubbery, berries, herbs and flowers that you enjoy.

For us I divided the outdoors into three rooms. I drew out an elementary level blueprint of each room.

  • Trees are the walls of your outdoor rooms: from deciduous, to evergreens, fruit bearing, nut bearing and more!

One young healthy tree is the equivalent to ten room-size air conditioners, wind protection, privacy, food producing, soil enrichment.

Tree roots tunneling their way through subsoil and rock create a small mineral mining operation. Each autumn leaves fall to the ground, creating a fresh deposit of organically mined minerals on the soil.

Trees are a part of the living water (hydrological cycle).
